Organic Lawn Care

There are many people who would like to turn to organic lawn care. The basis of organic lawn care is fairly simple. Maintaining a healthy lawn takes care of  many future problems.

Can You Take It Higher

Be sure and cut grass high during the season. Cutting about 3" should give you great success. Taller grass cuts down on burning in the hot season as the blades of grass shade each other. This also promotes expanding the root system. Thus , taller thicker grass can "choke out" weeds and also prevent erosion.

You're Not a Bagger

By not bagging and cutting grass in fine clippings allows nutrients to be returned to the lawn.

This is an extremely healthy process.

Some people invest in mulching mowers. If you have a mower with a bagger, take the bag off and close the shoot. You can then invest in a mulching blade. I like the gator blades on the market. They have teeth on the back of them.

Watering Hole

The best way to water is by soaking the ground instead of daily watering. When watering less frequent, water is stored deep in the ground. This promotes the grass to grow deeper roots.

Aeration

When soil and dirt get compacted from other grass, leaves, pets, and human traffic, it is difficult for new roots to grow. Core aeration can help with keeping the soil less compact.

This will make it easier for the roots to grow. Thus, making a healthier lawn.

The process of core aeration is actually pulling plugs from the ground using an aerator.

Companies provide this service or these machines can be rented at Home Depot.

Window Shopping for Grass

Find a grass that is for your climate. Some grasses grow better in certain areas of the country. If your lawn gets a lot of foot traffic, you may want to select a strong and sturdy grass so it can withstand the punishment.

Fertilizer

Two things to consider with fertilizers. Get slow release fertilizers rather than an all purpose. Second, you want a low level of phosphorous in your fertilizer.

Final Words

Following these steps will make a lawn stronger, better, more pest resistant, and a lot easier to maintain.

I wish you the best,
